Unmarried common-law Partners --      Partners living Together
Unmarried partners have no legal right to a persons property if no Last will is made NAMING THEM as beneficiaries.
In some circumstances the  home is registered in the sole name of one partner only. If you are not are not a beneficial joint owner and you are not named in a Last Will you may have no legal claim to a home or property you share together.
This would also be the case with a business if the partner is self employed or a sole trader.

it is very important to ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes.

Unless you write a will specifically stating how your assets are to to divided or shared they may automatically (according to the law of intestacy) go to surviving (siblings or parents) or other members of your family.

(See estate planning)

The only sure way is to make a Last Will and end any doubt or ambiguity that may arise.
