Signing and witnessing your Will
This page provides general information only. The final Wise Wills signing instructions should be checked against the exact final document and current legal requirements before live publication.
For a Will in England and Wales to be legally valid, it must generally be in writing and signed with the required witnessing formalities. The person making the Will signs in the presence of two witnesses, and the witnesses sign in the required manner. The same document should be used.
You should not leave a gift to a witness or their married partner. Official guidance also explains that the person making the Will and the witnesses must have a clear view of the signing process.
Always follow the signing instructions supplied with the completed Will. Do not sign a draft.
